Oxford graduate Mimi Somjee of the well-known local Jumabhoy family of entrepreneurs, founded WTP in 1992. Her intention was to reintroduce the Singapore heritage through well-chosen furniture pieces in a business concept. She also wanted to ensure that her own children understood the rich culture of Singapore of a bygone era.
With this in mind she put together a first collection of Peranakan-inspired and colonial furniture in an exhibition-cum-sale. Following her beloved mother's demise before the showcase was held, she was determined to continue with the business endeavour then known as Window to the Past, which quickly grew to become a great success in Singapore, especially with Singaporeans rediscovering their heritage along with many expatriates.
The business offering increased with client requirements. For the past five years the business has relocated to Kung Chong Road in its own building which is a retail outlet as well as headquarters for the company's one-stop services, including interior design, furniture leasing, renovations as well as other essentials for homeowners, architects and relocation companies.
