The reason I decided to support Tabitha was based on Janne's philosophy and how the programmes are set up; Tabitha works side by side with the Cambodia people, helping them help themselves which ultimately means that fundraising makes a sustainable difference. It is good to think that at some point in the future Tabitha won't be needed!
My first introduction to Tabitha was a trip in August 2007. Meeting the people in the Tabitha programme in Cambodia during that time, and getting to know more of their plight was a life changing trip for me - it was an incredible experience on many levels and one that I strongly encourage everyone to do. I have volunteered at various community fairs since then and when the opportunity arose for me to do more for the organization this year, I was delighted to become more involved. Janne's philosophy of empowerment and therefore financial independence through the family savings programme is at the core of the Foundation and one that I wholeheartedly support.
One of the major reasons for joining any charity or foundation is to try and put something back into society and help others less fortunate than you. It was so gratifying to see so many people putting time and effort into helping the families of Cambodia that I couldn't help but want to be involved.
Cambodia has one of the highest levels of poverty in the world, and the work that Tabitha and its volunteers undertake is inspiring. From fundraising to building wells and irrigation systems, to selling silk products to support local Cambodian industry, building houses, schools and even plans to build a hospital, the scale and breadth is truly amazing.
I feel privileged and honored to be a part of such an organization, and proud of what we are able to achieve for the families of Cambodia.
In addition to the Executive, we have a members committee who meet on a regular basis:
